New Directions. And Reflections

Ok, so I'm going to be trying something new. I have been thinking about this for awhile and its time I just got on with it. Now don't judge me, I won't be taking this too far but I want to start blogging about more than just photography (Simultanious groans from the crowd unite)

Wait wait wait, give me a chance to explain. The way I think about this self employed, service business thing is that its all a reflection of you, your values and why you do what you do.

Soooo my theory behind the blogging is that for you to understand my work and why I do things the way I do them, you kind of need to know what goes on behind the scenes a little.

I can assure you, a lot of the time for creatives (and I have it on good authority as a lot of my friends and I have this discussion often) we are anxiety ridden, social recluses who love people and who love what they do so much that they are terrified to do it incase it doesn't turn out the way they want. Now if your not one of us (One of us! One of us!, let me know if you get the refference) this will make zero sense so please feel free to accept us in our annoying procrastinating brilliance and carry on with your day.

If you are one of us, I know you are raising your hands in an exaggerated "AMEEEENNN" movement.

So, I'm still working out the kinks and realistically I will figure it out as I go, but the general plan is to show you the tools and products I use and the things I have trialled and tested along the way in my day to day life to remain sane in the brain.

As an example, I like to say I have involuntary narcolepsy when I read, I don't really, its just my way of saying if I try to read a book I will just fall asleep. Seriously. apparently its pretty funny to watch. But the way I have battled this is to use the app Audible. Basically as a nearly 30 year old (I'm clinging to my 20's like nobodies business) I really enjoy someone reading to me, and I learn waaayyyy more that way. Audible is an app with audio books and I am really starting to build up quite the collection that I think would be useful to a lot of people. I'm thinking it will be kind of like a creative small business book club where I review and give you the low down on books I have found useful.

I will also throw in the occassional business training tutorial and courses I have done, or youtube channels/influencers who have great personal and business tips. You know, all those Martha Stewart type people with websites, blogs, instagrams who have all developed Ebooks and youtube pages etc. They have some good stuff! They get paid to go to fancy events, trainings etc and then share the info! Its mental!

Sooooo yeah, this is new, this is a trial, and also a great way for me to navigate and learn this blogging world. I will have to make myself learn how to add links for you, learn copyright law as to how I am allowed to include other products etc and develop my writing style so its entertaining for the 10 people that read it. Mostly my friends and mum.

Let me know if this is useful, realistically I am just enjoying the blogging experience at the moment so there will still be photoshoots going up but I am learning that I enjoy this form of social media so much more! and I'm learning that I just have to go with my gut. Plus the amount of conversations I am starting to have with business owners (specifically of the momma variety) that feel disconnected and like they are winging it. Its important to pass on any info I have as sooooo much of it is available to everyone and that I am slowly learning we are all actually winging it and no one really has any idea what they are doing. The secret is to just do it, stop putting it off and it will become something. It will be nothing like the original plan you made, but thats kind of the point!

I once read "Running your own business is simple, it's just the biggest self improvement journey there is, and your business won't grow until you do".

BOOM! (*Drops mic, walks off stage*)
